BACKSTORY
Describe their childhood (newborn - age 10): Hikari was a very happy child and caught on to speech and reading very quickly. She loved to learn, much more than anything else. By the time she was five, she was reading books meant for seven or eight year old children. Her parents were of course happy about this, but didn't push her much. They just wanted their daughter to enjoy life, especially her childhood, which was fine with Kari. She worked very hard to become the best in her class, and when that goal was achieved, she found a new one. Her interest in learning things didn't just end with books, she would seek out other means of learning things as well. That was how she found ninjitsu, and a couple of other martial arts. She, as most children do, dabbled a bit at first, but the challenges of the sport quickly became a lifestyle for the young girl, and she grew in knowledge very quickly. By the time she was nine, Kari was basically living at her master's dojo, only leaving for classes, which she was rapidly passing. Her life had become a comfortable routine of school work and training and music and computers on her free time. Unfortunately this was all about to change.
Describe their teenage years (11 - 19): Shortly after Hikari's birthday her master announced that he was moving to New York City in the United States, and wanted Kari to come with him as his student. Her parents didn't really want to let her go so far away, but when her father got a promotion to one of the company offices in the same city, they reluctantly agreed. Once the travel plans were solidified however, things got a lot more problematic. Kari was kidnapped by an opposing dojo, and held for a few months before a contest that was held in New York. Unfortunately, during her captivity she ended up making a miscalculation and ended up paying for it with her voice. When she found herself free, she began stumbling around the back alleys of the city and had the misfortune to run into some Kraang operatives who where transporting mutagen. Her sensai tried to save her at the last minute, but he only succeeded in throwing both of them into a cage that had been discarded in the ally. Both of them mutated, Hikari into an anthropomorphic clouded leopard, and her master into a black wolf. Realizing that neither of them could be seen in the city, they retreated underground into the sewers. There they scratched out a living till Kari got her hands on the things she would need to build a computer. Since then she has built several websites, and a false identity that resides in a boarded up house above where they call home. She's talked to April via online chat a lot, and considers the girl her friend, and chats online with Donnie a lot, but hasn't yet met the brothers, or any of the other major players in the series.
